JUNE RECITAL 2017: BEYOND THE STARS
The theme for this year’s June Recital is Beyond The Stars! Our space themed show offers lots of options for great music and choreography ideas for our faculty to showcase our students in the multiple genres of dance we offer.
Please continue to keep Thursday, June 8, Friday, June 9 & Saturday, June 10 open for your dancer’s rehearsals & performance(s). Both the dress rehearsals and the recitals will take place at The Paul Davenport Theatre located in Talbot College on the University of Western Ontario campus. It’s only an 8 minute drive from the studio.
For dancers who are performing in our June recital, costume fees are now past due if you haven’t paid yet. We will be placing our costume order shortly, so it is imperative that your dancer’s costume(s) has/have been paid for and the dancer has been measured by one of our staff. We do not order costumes for students who have not paid their costume fees. Dancers can be measured by Kelly, Raelyn or Fern at the studio during office hours. We order costumes only from professional dance costume suppliers, however costumes are NOT custom made, meaning that we order the closest fitting costume to a dancer’s measurements. Students will try their costumes on in their classes leading up to the show and we will send them home before our photo days. Occasionally dancers may like a more snug fit, in which case you are welcome to make sizing adjustments to costumes yourself, or with our studio seamstress. Keep an eye out on our social media feeds where we like to provide sneak peaks of costumes on their way! J
Tickets will go on sale on Wednesday, May 10th via http://www.onstagedirect.com/NorthLondon. We highly recommend that you purchase your tickets in advance; shows have sold out in previous years & seating is assigned.
Our Winterlude DVD order has arrived at the studio & is available for pick up Monday to Thursday 5-9 pm, Friday 5-7:30 pm, Saturday 9 am – 5 pm & Sunday 1-5 pm.
Buns for Ballet Class
It is a long-standing tradition to see ballerinas with their hair gathered into a secure and neat bun, but there is more than just tradition to this elegant hairstyle. The most basic purpose of the bun is to keep hair from whipping the face during turns. In addition, ballet class requires that students focus on many different aspects of their developing technique and therefore they cannot be distracted by loose hair falling down or getting in their face. This will ensure that students are not wasting valuable class time fixing their hair, and they can concentrate on what is most important in class – learning and developing a love for dance! A friendly reminder that buns are mandatory for all ballet students at North London Dance Centre, ages 3 & up. Bun kits are sold at the front desk for $4 if needed. Don’t know how to make a dancer’s bun? Check out this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tMj_eaRML1w
