Buns for Ballet Class
It is a long-standing tradition to see ballerinas with their hair gathered into a secure and neat bun, but there is more than just tradition to this elegant hairstyle. The most basic purpose of the bun is to keep hair from whipping the face during turns. In addition, ballet class requires that students focus on many different aspects of their developing technique and therefore they cannot be distracted by loose hair falling down or getting in their face. Dancers (or their parents for the little ones) are responsible for putting their hair in a secure bun prior to class. This will ensure that students are not wasting valuable class time fixing their hair, and they can concentrate on what is most important in class – learning and developing a love for dance! A friendly reminder that buns are mandatory for all ballet students at North London Dance Centre, ages 3 & up. Bun kits are sold at the front desk for $4 if needed. Don’t know how to make a dancer’s bun? Check out this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=urVPCuuEYj8

Dancer’s Waiting Room
The room to the left when you walk into the dance school is our Dancer’s Waiting Room. We ask that any dancers who need to actually change clothing continue to use the washrooms for that purpose as our dancer’s room is for both our male and female students. Along these same lines, we ask that parents wait in the lobby area versus in the dancer’s waiting room.
JUNE RECITAL 2016:
LEAPING THROUGH THE LIBRARY
Q: What do dance teachers do the day after three Winterlude shows?
A: Have a planning meeting to pick the theme for the June Recital!
The theme for this year’s June Recital is Leaping Through the Library! The show will be pieces choreographed to music from BOOKS (or related to books), while showcasing our students in the multiple genres of dance we offer.
Please continue to keep Thursday, June 9, Friday, June 10 & Saturday, June 11 open for your dancer’s rehearsals & performance(s). Both the dress rehearsals and the recitals will take place at The Paul Davenport Theatre located in Talbot College on the University of Western Ontario campus. It’s only an 8 minute drive from the studio.
For dancers who are performing in our June recital, costume fees are due by this Saturday, January 9th. We will be placing our costume order very shortly after this date so it is imperative that your dancer has been measured by one of our staff before then. We do not order costumes for students who have not paid their costume fees. Dancers can be measured by Kelly or Raelyn at the studio during office hours. Students will try their costumes on in their classes leading up to the show and we will send them home before our photo days. Please don’t allow your dancers to wear their costumes (once we send them home) around the house for play. We want to keep them all in tip‐top shape for the recital.
Tickets will go on sale on Wednesday, May 11th via http://www.onstagedirect.com/NorthLondon We highly recommend that you purchase your tickets in advance; shows have sold out in previous years.
Please join us in congratulating to Ms. Genna who got engaged over Christmas!
