Louis Laberge-Côté Workshops
We had an amazing day of workshops earlier this month with Canadian, modern dancer and choreographer, Louis Laberge–Côté. Congratulations to all the dancers who took part!
June Recital – Kaleidoscope
Our year-end recital is only TWO WEEKS away, so you will have noticed that the video feeds from the studio have been turned off to allow the dancers to keep their recital dances a SURPRISE for you at the shows. The theme for this years June Recital is Kaleidoscope. All of the classes have now received their costumes and we ask that you don’t allow your dancers to wear their costumes around the house for play. We want to keep them all in tip-top shape for the recital! Each class needs to wear their classroom tights unless told otherwise by your instructor. If you need to purchase a pair, we have a very limited supply available at the front desk, or alternatively, you can pick them up at any of the dancewear stores in town.
Backstage space is at a premium during the shows. Please send only those items absolutely necessary with your dancers on show day. The little ones should ARRIVE wearing their costume, and not bring extra layers (including jackets & outdoor shoes) backstage. A bottle of WATER with your dancers name clearly marked is a great idea, and if they are bringing food place ensure it is peanut-free and not messy! We don’t want any accidents happening to anyone’s costume before going on stage. Please do not send any extra makeup with your child for the same reason.
The recital rehearsal schedule for Friday, June 12 & Saturday, June 13 has been emailed out to all dancers, along with the list of which classes are performing in which show. If you need a printed copy, there are hardcopies in the waiting room at the studio. Both the dress rehearsal and the recitals will once again take place at The Wolf Performance Hall at the Central Library.
Dress Rehearsal – Attendance at dress rehearsal is very important for both the dancers own benefit (in terms of orientating themselves on stage) but also for their classmates’ benefit who otherwise have to ‘imagine’ them in their spots on stage. Please ensure your dancers arrive at the theatre at their designated drop off time, and that you are present to pick them up at their listed pick up time.
For all rehearsals and shows, dancers should arrive with their hair in a dancers bun. Don’t know how to make one? Here’s a video! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=urVPCuuEYj8
Please note that all of our rehearsals are CLOSED rehearsals, which means that parents are not permitted to stay in the theatre to watch. We have our faculty and parents volunteers onsite to supervise all of the dancers while inside the theatre.
Show Day – We divide our school into two separate show to keep the shows at a reasonable length for both the audience and the children backstage. Please ensure that you know which class you dancer is performing in; some are only in one or the other, and some are in both. Extra copies are in the waiting room at the studio showing who performs in which show. The actual show order is also posted in the waiting room. Dancers in the 12:30 pm showcase need to arrive at 11:55 am, and dancers in the 4:30 pm showcase need to arrive at 3:45 pm.
Parking – There is underground parking available at Citi Plaza and the parking entrance that will bring you closest to the theatre is the one directly off of King Street, just east of Clarence Street. If you bring your parking stub into the service desk at the Central Library, they will validate it for 2 free hours of free parking if you present a library card. The service desk is only open until 6 pm on Fridays, and 5 pm on Saturdays, so be sure to validate before they close!
DVD Order Forms – We will hand out recital DVD order forms in all classes starting this week.
