RAD Ballet Grades 1-5

Students entering these levels work to their own level of dance development so that those who have earlier training continue from that base. These grades form an exciting progression of classical and contemporary ballet training, performance pieces, solo dances, free movement studies and solos and character dances.  Students range in age from 7 to 12. There is the opportunity to take the associated RAD exam for each level or the Presentation entry. These are not mandatory but can offer an exciting goal for many students and is an internationally recognized standard. Students at NLDC have always done extremely well in these examinations attaining many distinctions. Those who opt not to take the exam will still progress forward with their class.

Students from Grade 2 upwards study 2 lessons per week.

All students participate in the 2 annual school showcases. These are full year programs in 2 terms. All teachers of these levels at NLDC have professional and performing backgrounds.

Ballet Higher Grades: Grades 6-7, Grade 8 Award

The Royal Academy of Dance developed these levels to offer a wonderful dance performance experience to all ballet students as they move into their teenage and young adult years regardless of whether they aspire to more professional work or recreational enjoyment. These are higher level performance grades culminating in the highest grade award - Grade 8. These levels also permit application to the Academy for student membership status. All of the higher Grades include Ballet technique, performance and solos, Free movement pieces and solo dances and character enchainment and solos dances. The dance components of these grades makes this a much loved syllabus by all students whether or not they intend to ultimately take the exams. All teachers of these levels at NLDC have had professional training and performing experience.

Students commencing these levels are usually at least 13 years old. Students must study 2 classes per week at this level. Additionally some students will also concurrently or on alternate years study the Vocational grades.
