Kelly has been involved in dance for more than 30 years, and graduated from the Intensive Training Program at Maritime Dance Academy in Nova Scotia, where she extensively studied and taught jazz, tap, ballet, and modern, and obtained her Associate Teacher’s Licence with the Canadian Dance Teacher’s Association.
Subsequently Kelly founded the Maritime Dance Performance Group where she served as Artistic Director of the company for eleven years. During that time, she continued training at several schools throughout Atlantic Canada and Ontario, and successfully completed the Advanced exam in the Russian (Vaganova) ballet syllabus. More recently, Kelly successfully obtained a Full Member Teacher’s Licence with the Canadian Dance Teacher’s Association (Stage Division) in 2016.
An avid performer and choreographer, she has created more than 20 original commissioned works during her career, and was the recipient of the prestigious Pat Richard’s Choreographic Award at the age of 20, for demonstrating exceptional choreographic ability and the potential to realize a future in the creative realm of dance. An award was created in Kelly’s honor in 2009, The Kelly Horne Award, which continues to be given out every year by Maritime Dance Academy.
Kelly also holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Saint Mary’s University, and is a mother of three.
